We expect the BoK to hold its policy rate at 1.25% at its meeting on 27 February, with two well-known doves (Dongchul Cho and Inseok Shin) likely to dissent. Last year the BoK implemented two 25bp rate cuts in July and October, and kept the rate at 1.25% in the previous two meetings held in November 2019 and January 2020. Our base scenario continues to be that there will be no policy rate changes this year, although we acknowledge heightened uncertainties surrounding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
